The District of Oak Bay is seeking a Manager of Recreation Facilities to provide strong, visible leadership in the safe and efficient operation of our recreation facilities. This role is first and foremost about leading people-building high-performing teams, setting clear direction, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence. You'll guide and support staff while bringing technical expertise and strategic thinking to the management of assets and operations. Reporting to the Program Manager, Facilities and Asset Management, the Manager of Recreation Facilities oversees the operation, maintenance, repairs, and capital renewal of all District of Oak Bay recreation facilities. The role provides strategic and technical leadership to supervisors, maintenance staff, contractors, and service providers, ensuring facilities are operated safely, cost-effectively, and in alignment with District standards for building systems, energy efficiency, and customer service.
The Manager works closely with the Facilities and Asset Management team, the Recreation Division, and other District departments to plan, operate, maintain, upgrade, and decommission assets across multiple recreation sites.
Our ideal candidate has a technical diploma or degree in a related discipline, post-secondary leadership and team management training, a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience, including five (5) years in a supervisory role, preferably in a unionized municipal or public sector environment, experience with preventative maintenance programs and managing contractors/trades. Training or certification in project or facilities management (Certified Associate in Project Management, Facility Management Professional, Project Management Professional) is considered an asset. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, Occupational First Aid Level 3 & CPR/AED, TSBC 4th Class or Refrigeration Operator Certification (or higher) and Pool Operator Level 2 Certification are required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
