SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of licensed Truck and Coach Technicians and the Foreperson, learn and perform maintenance on Transit vehicles powered by diesel, hybrid and compressed natural gas engines while acquiring a knowledge of hand tools, power tools and related equipment required to perform these repairs.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Learn and perform inspections, maintenance and repairs to all parts and components of City Transit vehicles.
- Learn and perform tests on City Transit vehicles for faulty wheel alignment and steering mechanisms, brake systems, onboard electronic systems and propulsion systems.
- Learn and perform complete engine tune-ups, rebuilds and diagnostics.
- Responsible to comply with the policies of the City with respect to rules, regulations and safe working practices adopted by the Transit Fleet Division.
- To complete any/all Online LMS Training modules as applicable for the position, including Hamilton City Policies.
- Note: The duties and relationships outlined in this description are intended to cover only the significant responsibilities. Other duties that are related to the Transit Division functions may be assigned from time to time by the Foreperson or Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, Class “C” with “Z” endorsement. (Must have full “G” drivers’ licence).
- Must have successfully completed Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Must be eligible to register as a 310T Truck and Coach apprentice through Skilled Trades Ontario.
- Have potential to obtain a valid Certificate of Qualification as a 310T Truck and Coach Technician.
- Must be able to acquire, supply and maintain an adequate set of personal hand/power tools required for the job.
- Able to work with minimum supervision on day/evening/night and weekend shifts.
NOTE 1:
Must pass a Functional Abilities Test.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS “G” DRIVERS LICENCE WITH THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN A “CZ” DRIVER’S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.
