Reporting to the Manager of Public Works and Parks, this position is responsible for performing a wide variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled general labouring work primarily associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal underground infrastructure, as well as general maintenance/construction duties related to the installation, operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure and services. These duties entail considerable physical effort and require the ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment. The employee works under general supervision, with more difficult and complicated jobs referred to a superior who checks and reviews the work to ensure adherence to established standards and practices.
To be considered for this position, applicants should have the following qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent, supplemented by demonstrated aptitude for building maintenance and construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years’ experience in underground infrastructure maintenance and construction tasks, preferably in a municipal public works environment
- Training in shoring and excavation safe work procedures
- Training in Confined Space Entry safe work procedures
- Certified Traffic Control Certification
- Obtain and maintain a Basic First Aid certificate
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement
Legal ability to work in Canada is a requirement of this position.
This is a regular, full-time CUPE Local 374 position with a 2026 wage of $35.60/hour and an excellent benefits package. A detailed job description is available on the Town’s website at Sidney.ca.
