Our client, a growing, privately held engineering and manufacturing organization, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and execution of highly customized industrial equipment within an engineer-to-order (ETO) environment.
This role is responsible for delivering practical, compliant mechanical designs across the full project lifecycle from concept development through fabrication, testing, and commissioning. The position requires a strong balance of engineering design expertise and hands-on fabrication awareness, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities- Design custom equipment, including pressure vessels, piping systems, and skid-mounted process equipment
- Interpret client specifications, contracts, and technical requirements
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
- Support or perform stress, thermal, and vibration analysis as required
Codes & Compliance- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, including:
- ASME Section VIII
- ASME B31.3
- CSA and applicable regulatory codes
Execution & Collaboration- Work closely with drafting teams to produce fabrication drawings and BOMs
- Partner with project management to align with scope, schedule, and budget
- Support vendor selection and technical bid evaluations
- Participate in design reviews, P&IDs, and risk assessments (e.g., HAZOPs)
Fabrication Support- Provide technical support to the shop and production teams
- Resolve design-related issues during fabrication
- Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with shop capabilities
Project Lifecycle- Support projects through fabrication, testing, commissioning, and field activities as required
Continuous Improvement- Contribute to process improvements, design standardization, and product development initiatives
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Alberta
- 5-10 years of experience in custom manufacturing or ETO environments
- Experience in energy, industrial, or heavy manufacturing sectors preferred
Desired Technical Experience- Design of pressure vessels, piping systems, and process equipment
- Strong understanding of ASME and CSA codes and standards
- Experience supporting fabrication and production teams
- Familiarity with P&IDs and modular/skid-based systems
- Exposure to engineering tools such as ANSYS, CAESAR II, or similar (asset)
