Tasks
Diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds and flocks through physical examinations or laboratory testsTreat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds or performing surgeryVaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseasesAdvise clients on feeding, housing, behaviour, breeding, hygiene and general care of animalsPerform routine, emergency and post-mortem examinationsProvide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasiaSupervise animal health technologists and animal care workersTrain staffPerform X-rays and other testsPerform physical and chemical laboratory testsPerform diagnostic testsOperate ultrasound imaging equipment to produce and record imagesOrder laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic proceduresImplement treatment plansEnsure health and safety regulations are followedPerform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistryInitiate and maintain confidential medical files and recordsPerform and assist in routine surgery
