PROFILE SUMMARY
The Manual Machinist at GN Corporations Inc. is a highly skilled and trained machinist, capable of performing specific production tasks with a minimum of supervision on all manual equipment and is expected to provide feedback to a Cell Group Leader (CGL) for continual improvement initiatives.
Under direct supervision of a Cell Group Leader (CGL), the Manual Machinist works as a direct production worker fully familiar with company production and quality control procedures, as well as the equipment used.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
As a key member of the operations team, he will play a major role in meeting our customers on-time delivery requirements. All machinists/operators are responsible for communicating effectively with the CGLs to achieve the desired results. Shall execute duties outlined below but not limited to:
- Read and understand drawings, dimensions, and Geometric Dimensions & Tolerances
- Perform, under the direction of a Cell Group Leader, production tasks based on production drawings and applicable production and quality procedures and work instructions.
- Perform machine set-ups, first-off checks, and ensure first article inspections are completed.
- Assist root cause investigation for NCRs with the CGL and suggest process improvements to avoid reoccurrences in future.
- Follow the production routing as per the job operation listing.
- Follow all quality policies, procedures, and Work Instructions.
- Follow proper use and control of personal, shop and QC measuring and test equipment/gauges.
- Request tool requirements from tool management team.
- Ensures production, production area and other equipment is clean and maintained in operating condition and conditions consistent with corporate policies.
- Identify and report any product deviation or machinery and equipment problems to Cell Group Leader or Operations Manager.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS PROFICIENCY:
In addition to GN Corporations Inc. corporate requirements and recommended industry practices, being knowledgeable in the following regulatory and international standards requirements will be an added asset:

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Occupational Health and Safety Understanding and applying the GN Corporations Inc. Health and Safety policy as well as being responsible for his/her own health and safety at work, to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission.
- Industry Standards and Regulations Being familiar with all relevant industry standards, recommended practices, and regulations. Monitoring self-compliance with company, industry and government requirements as well as promoting their acceptance in all aspects of GNs business-related activities.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- 5-7 years of experience setting up and operating manual machines (e.g., lathes and mills).
- Journeymen Machinist certification with interprovincial Red Seal endorsement (an added asset)
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (AOH&S) Regulations to ensure a safe workplace and the specifics health & safety practices in the machining industry.
- Working knowledge of metals and their machinability.
- Proficient in the fine tuning of the machining parameters.
- Proficient with reading & interpreting manufacturing drawings, Imperial and Metric dimensioning systems, symbols including Geometrical tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
- Experienced in inspecting and completing records using precision measuring tools, comparators, and gauges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to prioritize and manage time efficiently.
- Able to build strong interpersonal relationships with peers and management team.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- General knowledge of industrial maintenance, installation, servicing, and fabrication work using relevant equipment, power tools, and procedures.
