Scope
Are you passionate about visual arts and enjoy teaching a variety of ages and types of art? Join the City of Surrey’s Culture Division and contribute to high quality arts education in the community.
Visual Arts Instruction may include but is not limited to drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, textile arts, illustration, design, photography, and ceramics. Our Visual Art Instructors can teach preschool, children, youth and adult participants throughout the year and participate in hands-on outreach activities across Surrey.
Employment Status
Non-Union Instructor – Auxiliary.
Responsibilities
- Instruct lessons for a variety of ages and abilities, including preschool, children, youth, adults, and seniors.
- Deliver course content that fosters technical skill building and individual expression.
- Develop and facilitate developmentally appropriate visual art classes that are engaging and accessible.
- Submit lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop.
- Independently set up, take down, and maintain program space.
- Provide a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Required skills include:
- Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials.
- Classroom management
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relational skills with participants and staff.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Qualifications
We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in art and art education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills.
The successful candidate must have:
- A degree/diploma in the area of visual arts, art education, or a related field or related experience.
- A minimum of one year previous teaching experience
- A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
- A Valid BC Driver’s License is an asset.

Hourly Rate: starting $32.16
