For over 100 years, our camping department has operated overnight camps, giving children an experience like none other. Nestled in a beautiful lakeside setting, Camp Belwood provides a safe, enriching environment for youth to build friendships and create lasting memories. This is where you come in. What will you do:
Working closely with the Camp Director and Facilities Supervisor, you will ensure the upkeep, safety, and smooth operation of Camp Belwood’s facilities and grounds. This is a physically demanding role that requires task flexibility and high energy.
Key Responsibilities: - Facility Repair & Renovations: Perform general repairs to camper cabins (doors, windows, screens, bunks, paint) andassistwith renovations to existing and new buildings and structures.
- Waterfront & Deck Maintenance:Maintainand repair camp docks, decks, and motorboat, to ensure total safety and functionality for campers.
- Groundskeeping & Equipment:Maintaincampgrounds by mowing, trimming, and clearing pathways. Operate tractors and other machinery for various site tasks.
- Vehicle Operation: Safelyoperatecamp trucks, including those with trailers, to transport materials and equipment.
- Preventative Maintenance: Address plumbing leaks, structural and mechanical issues proactively to prevent disruptions to camp life.
- Spring/Fall Transitions: Assist with the seasonal opening and closing of camp systems to ensure standards are met.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations,maintainclean worksites, and ensure all equipment is in excellent repair.
What will you bring: - Experience: At least 4 years of experience in general maintenance, repair work, or a similar environment.
- Technical Skills:Proficiencywith various hand/power tools and experience operating lawnmowers and tractors and other machinery
- Work Ethic: Ability to work independently or with a team with various skills and abilities. Strong problem solving, organized and attention to detail
- Mindset: You are a proactive team player who can work independently with minimal supervision. You are committed to working in a socially inclusive environment and upholding JAIDE (Justice, Access, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity) values.
- Physicality: Ability to perform manual labour outdoors in various weather conditions, including frequent walking, lifting, and physical exertion.
- Certifications:
- A successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED is an asset
- G- Class License
- Pleasure Craft Operator Cardan asset
This role requires regular travel across the region, which may not always be easily accessible through public transit. The employee must be able to arrange their transportation to these sites. A valid G driver’s license and full-time vehicle access are strongly recommended.
