Process Engineering and Process Safety Management Lead
Are you ready to take your process optimization expertise to the next level? We are looking for motivated Process Engineering and Process Safety Management Lead to join our tea. They will be responsible for overseeing process engineering activities and leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Process Safety Management program. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facilities while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and industry’s best practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Identify, manage, and prioritize Process Engineering assignments including day-to-day initiatives and long-term projects;
- Analyze process metrics and performance to predict maintenance/turnaround requirements of process units and make associated recommendations;
- Provide plant engineering support in optimizing, troubleshooting and overall improvement of unit operation;
- Develop, communicate and execute process metrics and KPIs to optimize process operational performance;
- Carry out process simulations of the renewable fuel production units to optimize and troubleshoot process problems;
- Complete process engineering calculations relating to areas such as mass and energy balances, heat transfer, and system hydraulics;
- Identify and design methods to increase profitability and/or improve reliability of process units;
- Read, interpret and approve Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs);
- Provide process engineering support in unit turnaround/shutdown activities such as developing start-up and shut-down procedures, completing visual inspections of process equipment and vessels, as well as overseeing catalyst loading;
- Direct the improvement projects/initiatives related to Process Safety Management (PSM) policies and procedures;
- Update and maintain PSM records and databases;
- Chair monthly PSM meetings and provide PSM performance statistics to Leadership;
- Coordinate PSM related improvement projects such as facility siting studies, quantitative risk assessments and Hazard and Operability (HazOp) 5-year revalidation studies
- Facilitate formal risk assessments, such as What-If analyses for in-house projects
- Lead process safety related incidents investigations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Process or Chemical Engineering
- Professional Engineering (P. Eng.) designation
- 8-10 years of combined relevant process engineering and process safety experience is required
- Previous hydrotreating/refining experience is considered an asset
- Previous experience in a lead/supervisory role is considered an asset
- Must pass pre-employment medical
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively train and mentor employees
- Motivated and hard-working with a professional attitude
- Exemplary record in Health, Safety, and Environment is essential
- Proven leadership and problem-solving capabilities and ability to meet deadlines
- Computer literacy (an asset), i.e., Microsoft Office and (Computerized Maintenance Management System) such as Maximo or SAP
- Comprehensive knowledge of refinery operations or Industrial background
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, as this role consists of a combination of field and desk work.
- Occasionally working in confined spaces and at heights, with bending, stretching, and twisting.
- Ability to work a combination of days and nights on a rotating schedule.
- Occasional lifting/moving >50 lbs.
