About the Role
As a member of the Lambton County Library system, the Cleaner is responsible to perform general cleaning duties in compliance with established protocols and procedures of a public library and theatre. The Cleaner's work assists in the delivery of a library service that meets the strategic direction set forth by senior management and Lambton County Council.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Duties:
- Follow established cleaning routines and checklists to ensure all assigned public, private and theatre spaces meet the required cleaning standards
- Clean the bathrooms within the facility including the following duties: cleaning and disinfecting sinks, countertops, toilets, stalls, mirrors, floors, etc. Replenish paper products and polish metalwork including fixtures and fittings
- Dust, mop, damp mop, vacuum floors throughout the facility, using designated equipment in designated areas. Other floor work may be required
- Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, tables, chairs, refrigerators, dishwasher, and other kitchen equipment located in the lunchroom, server, and / or lounge, ensuring Ministry guidelines are met. Replenish supplies when required
- Dust and wipe down furniture, desks, shelving, computers, equipment, partitions, etc.
- Disinfect all contact points such as door handles, handrails, phones, light switches, etc.
- Empty waste baskets and recyclables and transport to disposal area
- Clean woodwork, windows, door panels, partitions, window sills, handrails, stairs and walls
- Report any changes in the physical environment that may be indicative of future problems such as evidence of pests, water leaks, mould, etc.
- Submit completed cleaning checklists on a weekly basis
- May be required to travel to various facilities for purposes of employment.
Customer Service / Communication Responsibilities:
- Interact pleasantly and courteously with the public, community partners and staff, promoting a harmonious workplace
Health and Safety:
- Keep current and up to date with all requirements and provisions contained in the County's Health and Safety Policies
- Participate in employee health and safety training activities as required and maintain up to date knowledge of potential hazards and safety work practices (Material Safety Data Sheets, WHMIS)
- Inventory necessary cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment and communicate needs to identified staff
General:
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis
