Reporting directly to the Controller, this role oversees accounting and payroll operations across multiple entities while partnering closely with Finance, HR, Operations, IT, and Executive Leadership. The Opportunity
This is more than a traditional accounting leadership role. You will lead the day-to-day accounting and payroll operations for a dynamic healthcare organization while helping shape the future direction of financial processes, controls, reporting, and systems.
The successful candidate will bring a strong balance of technical accounting expertise, operational leadership, strategic thinking, and people leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes across multiple entities
• Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, vendor payments, and financial reporting activities
• Review complex accounting transactions and ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on strengthening controls, workflows, and reporting processes
• Ensure timely and accurate GST/PST remittances and regulatory compliance
• Oversee contractor payments, revenue allocations, and partnership-related financial reconciliations
Payroll Leadership
• Oversee bi-weekly payroll operations through Ceridian Dayforce
• Ensure payroll processes remain compliant with federal and provincial legislation
• Partner with HR and leadership teams to support payroll reporting, policy updates, and process enhancements
• Act as a senior escalation point for payroll-related matters and support payroll operations as needed
Reporting, Analysis & Business Support
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities across departments
• Analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide meaningful financial insights
• Support banking, audit, and compliance reporting requirements
Systems, Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Support ongoing optimization and administration of Sage Intacct workflows and reporting
• Collaborate with IT and operational teams to ensure system accuracy and reporting integrity
• Participate in financial system enhancements and implementation initiatives
• Support financial setup and operational integration for new clinic locations and organizational growth initiatives
Leadership & Team Development
• Mentor, coach, and develop accounting and payroll team members
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment
• Support workload planning, prioritization, and operational efficiency across the team
• Build strong relationships across departments as a trusted finance partner
What You Bring
• CPA designation required
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting responsibilities
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience managing accounting and/or payroll teams
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, reconciliations, and management accounting principles
• Experience with Sage Intacct and Ceridian Dayforce considered strong assets
• Advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Proven ability to lead teams and drive operational improvements in a fast-paced environment
