Day in the life
As an Estimator, you will play a key role in the preparation of competitive bids for municipal construction projects across Atlantic Canada. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for reviewing drawings and specifications, completing accurate quantity take‑offs, and developing detailed cost estimates using established cost data, first principles, and estimating software. You will support the tendering process by coordinating required bid documentation and ensuring submissions are complete, accurate, and compliant with tender requirements.
You will solicit and evaluate quotations, battles through peer reviews, and engages in negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors. You will also be attending pre-bid and pre-award meetings, chair post-award gatherings, and ensure smooth project liftoff.
You will work closely with Project Managers to support the transition from bid to project award and provide estimating support as required during project handover. You will consider safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements as part of the estimating and tender review process.
This role is well suited to an individual who enjoys detailed cost analysis, competitive bidding environments, and contributing to successful municipal tenders through collaboration and technical expertise.
Minimum Qualifications
- Civil Engineering degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and estimating experience
- 3 years of relevant civil estimating industry experience, preferably in Asphalt municipal and DTI related projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating work in Atlantic Canada or similar municipal markets is considered an asset
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or comparable heavy civil estimating software
Exciting Projects: (Airport asphalt Runways), (P3 design Builds), (Lump Sum Heavy Civil provincial and National projects), (Culverts and Environmental projects), (Chip Seal, Milling, and Micro surfacing Projects)
