This is specialized research work involving the application of advanced research and analytical techniques to support criminal investigations and development of detachment strategies, projects and operational programs. An employee of this class provides technical guidance and direction and participates in the collection, researches, evaluation, analysis and interpretation of a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data and information; assembles intelligence information in a variety of formats, prepares reports and recommendations based upon analysis; participates in and supports the development and implementation of strategies, projects and programs; establishes and maintains liaison with a wide variety of internal and external contacts. Provides technical guidance and direction to Crime Analysts engaged in collection and analysis of investigative and intelligence data; prepares shift schedules; discusses and assists in the resolution of workplace problems; trains and instructs new employees; participates in interviews, recommends selection of staff, selects auxiliary staff and provides feedback on performance. Performs advanced research tasks to monitor and identify the nature and scope of emerging and persistent crime problems, trends, socio-economic or demographic factors related to the problem; The work of this class is differentiated from that of the Crime Analyst by the application of more advanced research and statistical techniques, responsibility for providing technical guidance, and developing and supporting detachment strategies. An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in all aspects of the work, discussing unusual, more complex or policy issues with a supervisor. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a degree in criminology, economics, geography, mathematics or related discipline, preferably supplemented by completion of a forensic investigation diploma at a technical institute plus considerable related experience, and preferably some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Thorough knowledge of advanced research, statistical and analytical principles, practices, procedures, methods and techniques; knowledge of the organization and functions of various internal sections, and of the regulations, policies and practices governing the work performed. Ability to provide technical guidance and direction to Crime Analysts, prepare shift schedules, assist in the resolution of workplace problems, train staff, participate in interviews, select auxiliary staff and provide feedback on performance; to perform advanced research and analytical tasks, interpret statistical and narrative data and prepare forecasts, projections and reports on various matters; to participate in and support the development of detachment strategies, projects and programs. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Must be able to pass EDCAS Analyst exam, and to hold an RCMP Top Secret Security Clearance.
Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Mutual Agreement between Monday to Sunday, 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM)
This is a Temporary Full Time position until October 31, 2026.
