Casual Support Worker II
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
The Support Worker II will work both the evening and overnight shifts. Their role will involve ensuring the basic rules are followed and the building is a safe, secure environment. The Support Worker II will follow the policies and procedures of the GSS and will assist the Manor staff with any emergency issues as required.
Support Worker II will provide support, advocacy and information and after hours support to the residents. They will sensitively and appropriately support residents to meet their personal care needs to a high standard. This position will also support residents to take any prescribed medicine, complying with all medicine policies, including storage, administering and record keeping.
The Support Worker II will enable residents to achieve independence as far as possible in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training and support. They will help residents to identify and choose their support needs and assist in implementing and reviewing care plans.
The Support Worker ll will have an understanding of mental health issues, trauma informed care, Harm Reduction practices and the willingness and ability to work within this framework.
Position Qualifications
-The successful candidates will ideally have a degree or diploma in a Human Services field with a minimum of 1 year of direct experience in working in a residential setting. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
-An open, accepting and non-judgmental attitude with an ability to build rapport with clients and staff
-Experience working with people with complex life circumstances associated with substance-related disorders, mental health issues, mobility issues and homelessness
-Basic understanding of harm reduction principles based on dignity, hope and healing as individuals move forward towards improved health and well-being
-Demonstrates understanding of mental health issues, trauma informed care and the addictions field
-Knowledge of referrals resources
-Understanding of inner city issues
-Current Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
-First Aid/CPR/AED Training
Health Care Aide (HCA)
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
The Health Care Aide (HCA) reports directly to the LPN, adheres to ethical standards in all work activities, and provides services within a harm reduction model. The HCA will provide daily supports including medication administration, wound care and other medical assistance.
They will be responsible for client ADLs, personal care, and hygiene and will be expected to function well in a team environment while following the policies and procedures of the George Spady Society. Working closely with the Program Manager and the LPN, the HCA will help ensure all clients’ medical and psychosocial needs are being met. In that context, the HCA duties will include:
Adhere to the George Spady Society Code of Ethics
Work together with program team
Participate in morning and afternoon shift change meetings
Interact with clients in a nonjudgmental way, using de-escalation and rapport building technique
Maintain case notes and update the client files
Update and maintain information on referral sources using the FYI database
Attend staff meetings as required
Participate in ongoing learning and training opportunities as identified on yearly performance review
Any other tasks assigned by the LPN
Position Qualifications
-Qualified HCA
--Demonstrates understanding of the addictions field
Experience working with people with complex life circumstances associated with substance-related disorders, mental health issues, mobility issues and homelessness
-Basic understanding of harm reduction principles based on dignity, hope and healing as individuals move forward towards improved health and well-being

-Excellent computer, typing and interpersonal skills
-Current Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
-First Aid/CPR/AED Training
Hours of Work: 8 - 12-hour shifts, 7:45am 8:15pm or 7:45pm 8:15am. Some weekends.
