Our client, a government organization, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to join their collaborative Accounting team. Leading a team of two payroll professionals, the Payroll Supervisor will ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting, manage year-end activities, and support audit readiness.

This role is ideal for an experienced payroll supervisor who has experience processing and overseeing payroll for many union and non-union staff. If you have supervisory experience, excellent analytical skills, and have or are working towards your PCP/CPM, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Note that this position requires you to work on-site in Cambridge, Ontario 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

Manage the day-to-day activities within the Payroll Department
Supervise the processing of bi-weekly payroll for both union and non-union employees
Recruit, train and supervise two direct reports, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all payroll processes.
Complete month end and year end closing, including reconciliations, adjustments, and T4 preparation
Ensure compliance with Collective Agreements, employment standards, and taxation requirements
Develop and improve payroll policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of payroll services, and lead process improvement and updates to payroll systems to ensure optimal performance
Ensure that all external reporting requirements are met in a timely manner
Provide support and expertise to management and staff on all payroll matters

Qualifications:

Experience managing payroll for a large, unionized employee group
2+ years of supervisory/leadership experience; ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
Completion of a post-secondary diploma or equivalent required
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) and member of the National Payroll Institute preferred; non-designated candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered.
Intermediate level Excel skills including pivot tables and V-lookups
Extremely detail oriented and strong analytical and reporting skills
Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
