Our client, a government organization, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to join their collaborative Accounting team. Leading a team of two payroll professionals, the Payroll Supervisor will ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting, manage year-end activities, and support audit readiness.
This role is ideal for an experienced payroll supervisor who has experience processing and overseeing payroll for many union and non-union staff. If you have supervisory experience, excellent analytical skills, and have or are working towards your PCP/CPM, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
Note that this position requires you to work on-site in Cambridge, Ontario 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day activities within the Payroll Department
- Supervise the processing of bi-weekly payroll for both union and non-union employees
- Recruit, train and supervise two direct reports, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all payroll processes.
- Complete month end and year end closing, including reconciliations, adjustments, and T4 preparation
- Ensure compliance with Collective Agreements, employment standards, and taxation requirements
- Develop and improve payroll policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of payroll services, and lead process improvement and updates to payroll systems to ensure optimal performance
- Ensure that all external reporting requirements are met in a timely manner
- Provide support and expertise to management and staff on all payroll matters
Qualifications:
- Experience managing payroll for a large, unionized employee group
- 2+ years of supervisory/leadership experience; ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma or equivalent required
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) and member of the National Payroll Institute preferred; non-designated candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Intermediate level Excel skills including pivot tables and V-lookups
- Extremely detail oriented and strong analytical and reporting skills
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
