The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Library Assistant at the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you would have the opportunity to assist with the opening and closing procedures of the library, creating displays, shelving materials, shelf reading, assisting patrons with digital library resources and databases, additional customer service skills, engaging with the community in a friendly library setting and provide support with library events and outreach, and opportunities to work on system-wide work groups.
Currently, we have four part-time 30-hour Library Assistant positions and one full-time Library Assistant position open. Four are in our Circulation Services division, and one is at the West Branch.

- Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date)
- Review of Supplemental Questionnaire
- In-Person Performance Exam (Tentatively scheduled for February 18th, 19th, and 20th)
Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews slated for a date to be determined.
