LeverageTek is actively seeking a Data Governance Specialist DEM consultant for a 12-month contract opportunity with its Ottawa-based customer.

Key Tasks
Metadata Management
- Support proposed enhancements to metadata capabilities using Microsoft Purview or similar tools.
- Ensure glossary terms align with project requirements, business units, and established governance standards.
- Facilitate business agreement on metadata changes and update data definitions, metadata information, and glossary terms.
Data Quality Management
- Review and validate proposed changes to strengthen the organization’s data quality strategy.
- Facilitate agreement on Critical Data Elements (CDEs) and updates to data quality rules.
- Support the execution of approved data quality rules.
Data Ownership & Stewardship Framework
- Coordinate stewardship and ownership activities across business teams in alignment with the Data Governance Lead.
- Refine data governance roles to align with the project operating model.
- Implement agreed-upon changes for data ownership and stewardship outside the scope of external partners.
- Build business awareness and understanding of the Data Governance Framework through targeted communications and training.
- Operationalize the framework to embed governance in day-to-day workflows.
- Identify gaps or new business needs and recommend enhancements.
- Support governance forums and clarify decision pathways for effective business participation.
Key Qualifications
- Strong Data Governance Expertise: Ability to refine and operationalize governance frameworks, manage data definitions, and implement ownership/stewardship models.
- Experience leading discussions across multiple units and translating technical concepts into business-friendly terms.
- Proven experience Operationalizing Governance and Driving Adoption: Hands-on experience implementing governance practices into day-to-day workflows.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data quality practices.
- Proven analytical and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Purview or similar enterprise data cataloging tools.
- Experience operationalizing data governance within business units.
- Skilled in facilitating business alignment on governance standards and definitions.
- Knowledge of data stewardship and ownership models.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and cross-team collaboration skills.

- Ability to balance strategic and hands-on tasks.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience working with consulting partners or third-party vendors in a governance context.
