Introduction
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented, and results-driven Contract Surface A&D Analyst to join our client’s team. Our client is a growing organization in the Western Canadian energy sector, committed to regulatory excellence, operational integrity, and efficient land management processes. Based in Calgary, AB , this is a 12-month, full-time, in-office contract role (in-office four days per week) offering the opportunity to lead complex land acquisition and divestiture projects while supporting ongoing operational and corporate land initiatives.
Reporting directly to the A&D Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing surface land A&D activities, validating critical land and well data, preparing conveyancing documentation, and supporting the execution of diverse A&D transactions. This individual will work closely with internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, and will play a key role in continuous process improvement. The successful candidate will be an independent problem-solver with strong technical expertise and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, detail-intensive environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all Surface Land A&D activities , ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution of acquisitions and divestitures.
- Review and validate land and well schedules, identify discrepancies, and resolve post-close deficiencies.
- Prepare conveyance and transfer documentation, including asset license transfers, lease conveyances, and land title transfers .
- Update and maintain land systems, ensuring accuracy across CS Land, OneStop, ETS, ISC, Land Titles, Abadata, Fieldglass, and mapping platforms.
- Identify potential risks associated with Surface A&D processes and communicate them effectively to senior leaders and internal stakeholders.
- Conduct due diligence, chain-of-title review, and research to resolve complex A&D-related challenges.
- Support and guide two junior staff members, offering technical direction and quality oversight.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external regulatory bodies across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia to ensure regulatory compliance and seamless execution.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and support evolving workflows within the Contract Services and A&D group.
- Participate in a variety of land-related projects as needed, assisting with area deals, corporate transactions, and day-to-day A&D requests.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships across the organization to support efficient and aligned A&D delivery.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of Surface Land experience, with a strong focus on acquisitions and divestitures.
- Petroleum Land Administration certificate or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of Western Canadian surface land regulations, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, and BC.
- Proven experience with A&D requirements for Freehold, Crown, and Fee title.

- Mapping and land management software
- Exceptional data analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-volume projects simultaneously with minimal oversight.
