Petroplan is seeking an experienced Senior Architect on behalf of our client to support ongoing design and construction activities across multiple infrastructure and facilities projects. This is a contract role offering a hybrid work model and meaningful involvement in high-impact capital initiatives.
Location: Hybrid – Local to the Greater Toronto Area
Contract Length: 1-year term, with potential extensions
Schedule: 35 hours per week
About the Role
The Senior Architect will provide full architectural design services, technical leadership, and construction support throughout all project phases. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering teams, project stakeholders, and consultants while ensuring design integrity, code compliance, safety, and constructability.
This position requires regular on-site visits, participation in in-office meetings, and field assessments as required.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design & Technical Leadership
• Lead architectural design for new construction, renovations, and upgrades to various facility types.
• Oversee and review work completed by design architects and support staff.
• Prepare architectural drawings, technical design reports, schematic and preliminary designs, and full contract documentation.
• Conduct building code and compliance reviews for new and existing facilities.
• Develop work plans, coordinate project inputs, and guide multidisciplinary design teams.
Construction & Site Support
• Conduct field reviews and generate reports to meet permit and regulatory requirements.
• Review shop drawings, contract submittals, and technical documentation.
• Prepare deficiency reports and support contract change evaluations.
• Provide ongoing construction-phase support and problem-solving.
Technical Review & Standards Support
• Participate in design and development reviews for internal and consultant-prepared documents.
• Support updates to design standards and provide technical input on an as-needed basis.
• Assist operations teams with architectural and technical guidance as required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant architectural experience, ideally involving large-scale, complex, or transit-related facilities.
• Licensed Architect (OAA) in good standing—mandatory.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex multidisciplinary design projects.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, construction practices, permitting, and technical coordination.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficiency with architectural software and remote collaboration platforms (Microsoft Teams preferred).

• Ability to attend on-site visits and in-office meetings with short notice.
• Must have appropriate safety footwear; additional PPE will be provided.
