The Opportunity
As a construction safety offer (CSO) you will be involved with working on construction project sites, assisting the Superintendent and site teams with overall First Aid and Safety responsibilities.
Your day to day will include:
- Site Inspections: Conduct regular walk-throughs and inspections of the construction site to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards
- Safety Checks: Verify that all safety equipment, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), safety harnesses, and first aid kits, are available and in good condition.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the construction site complies with all relevant local, provincial, and federal safety regulations
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports and safety meetings
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and update emergency response plans, ensuring all workers are familiar with evacuation procedures and emergency contacts
- Safety Orientation: Provide safety orientation for new workers, ensuring they understand site-specific hazards and safety protocols
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, near misses, or incidents to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences. This includes collecting witness statements and documenting findings
- First Aid and Medical Assistance: Provide first aid to injured workers and coordinate with medical professionals if further treatment is needed
- Coordination with Management: Work closely with site managers, superintendents, and other supervisors to integrate safety measures into all aspects of the project
Requirements
- A minimum 3 years working as a CSO on multi-family sites
- Worked for reputable GC’s in North America with established safety procedures
- Experience working on wood-frame sites (ideally 4-6 storeys)
- Strong communicator, confident in dealing with different personalities and building lasting relationships
- Must be CSO Certified (or related)(NSCO) (OFA level 3)
- Must be able to commute to sites in Lower Mainland
Compensation
- Range of $35 - $40 an hour depending on experience
