Cloud Engineer
Location: Remote in Toronto, CA or Remote in Canada
Industry: AI, Cloud, IoT
Employment Type: Full-Time
A rapidly scaling innovator in industrial automation is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer to join their engineering team. This high-impact position plays a pivotal role in building the infrastructure that powers edge AI applications for advanced video analytics and telemetry. Working on a next-generation platform that bridges real-time data ingestion and cloud-native services, this is a rare chance to help shape a cloud backend built for speed, scale, and intelligence.
About the Role:
This is a hands-on, architecture-driven engineering position responsible for the development of cloud microservices that manage edge device fleets, real-time telemetry, deployment orchestration, and customer-facing APIs. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with DevOps, AI/ML, and embedded engineering teams to create a cohesive system designed for scale and reliability.
This is not just another cloud engineering role—this is an opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure powering the future of edge-based computer vision and AI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate cloud-native backend services that support telemetry, fleet management, and edge configuration.
- Architect scalable ingestion pipelines for streaming video, metrics, and metadata from distributed edge environments.
- Ensure high availability and security with robust multi-tenant controls, role-based access, and secure integration frameworks.
- Work with Kubernetes and containerized environments to support seamless deployments and DevOps scalability.
- Collaborate with edge engineering teams to integrate cloud-side tuning parameters, monitoring hooks, and performance analytics.
- Participate in architecture discussions for disaster recovery, cost optimization, and cross-cloud resilience.
- Maintain internal and external APIs and SDKs for partner and developer enablement.
- Assist in operational excellence through automation, monitoring, and participation in on-call support rotations.
What You Bring:
- 4+ years of experience in backend/cloud/platform engineering roles.
- Deep proficiency in at least one cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and core service areas (IAM, compute, networking, and storage).
- Strong programming experience in backend languages such as Go, Python, or Java.
- Experience designing and deploying containerized applications using Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts including resilience, scaling, and message-based architectures.
- Expertise in observability tooling—logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Kinesis) for event-driven architectures.
- Background in ML or computer vision platforms (e.g., model deployment, feature stores, ML pipelines).
- Familiarity with industrial connectivity, OT systems, or IoT platform integration.
The Culture:
This is a collaborative, fast-paced startup culture where innovation and ownership are valued. The team thrives on solving complex problems and welcomes candidates who enjoy ambiguity, continuous learning, and working with cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies.
