About Our Client
Our client is a multi-disciplinary design and architecture firm specializing in commercial and retail architecture, including gas stations, convenience stores, quick-service restaurants, automotive facilities, and other ICI projects. They provide integrated architectural, engineering, and project solutions from concept through construction, serving clients across Western Canada and Ontario.
Position Summary
As an Architectural Technologist , you will play a key role in delivering high-quality technical architectural deliverables for ICI projects, including new builds and renovations of gas stations, quick-service restaurants, standalone retail outlets, and related commercial facilities.
This position begins initially for 6–12 weeks in-office / hybrid to support onboarding, collaboration, and workflow alignment. After this period, the role transitions to a remote work model , depending on performance and project needs.
Candidates must already reside in Alberta.
You will work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and other internal stakeholders to produce detailed construction drawings, coordinate design disciplines, ensure code compliance, and support all stages of project delivery from schematic design through construction documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop technical architectural drawings and detailed construction packages using AutoCAD and related software.
- Coordinate architectural design with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and petroleum engineering disciplines.
- Interpret architectural briefs and translate design concepts into working drawings that meet client, code, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform code analysis, zoning reviews, and building standards checks relevant to ICI projects.
- Assist with site planning, layouts, elevations, sections, details, and specifications.
- Produce permit application drawings and supporting documentation.
- Communicate and collaborate with consultants, contractors, and municipal authorities as needed.
- Participate in internal design reviews and quality-control processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of deliverables.
- Support construction administration tasks, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals as required.
- Maintain project documentation, revisions, and drawing archives.
- Contribute to process improvements and best practices within the technical design team.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience as an Architectural Technologist, preferably with experience on ICI projects, including gas stations, restaurants, and standalone retail outlets .
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Architectural Engineering, or a related field from a recognized college or university.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with AutoCAD , with at least the last two years predominantly focused on AutoCAD for architectural drafting and documentation.
- Strong understanding and practical working experience with Alberta and/or British Columbia building codes, standards, and municipal requirements .
- Knowledge of commercial and retail architectural detailing and construction practices.
- Excellent technical drafting and drawing production skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work effectively under deadlines and manage changing priorities.
