Sierra Construction’s General Contracting team is seeking an experienced Working Foreperson to join our field operations group. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Working Foreperson will lead day-to-day site activities while remaining hands-on in the work. You will coordinate crews and subcontractors, support project schedules, and ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to a high standard of quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate the daily activities of construction workers on site.
- Assign tasks, provide clear direction, and support a productive, respectful team environment.
- Train and mentor crew members on best practices, techniques, and safe work procedures.
- Actively participate in construction tasks, including carpentry and general contracting work.
- Support and guide other trades as required to maintain proper sequencing and workflow.
- Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and materials necessary for daily activities.
- Work with the Field Operations Manager and site leadership to plan daily and weekly work activities.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and deliveries to maintain project timelines.
- Monitor progress, identify constraints early, and help resolve issues or delays promptly.
- Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation.
- Read and check grades using a rotary builder’s level; verify layout and elevations as required.
- Maintain workmanship standards and ensure deficiencies are identified and corrected quickly.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company protocols.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Communicate effectively with Field Operations, Site Supervisors, Project Managers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Provide clear progress updates and support a strong client experience.
- Keep accurate records including daily reports, manpower hours, materials used, and site activities.
- Support cost-effective use of resources and general budget awareness.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned, whether specifically or generally related to the role
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- 5+ years construction experience, preferably in general contracting.
- 3–5+ years experience in a foreperson/lead hand/supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and site coordination.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and details.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organization skills and comfort with daily reporting/documentation.
- Working knowledge of email and basic Microsoft tools (Word/Excel).
- Valid G Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
