Insight Global is hiring a Design Specialist to support a major network transformation initiative focused on copper-to-fibre migration and outside plant optimization. Our client is leading a major network transformation initiative: retiring legacy copper infrastructure and optimizing our wireline network to deliver a Fibre-first future. This program focuses on eliminating dual support costs, improving reliability, and enabling next-generation connectivity.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate with technology, migration, and reclamation teams to design solutions for decommissioning copper circuits and equipment, supporting central office redevelopment across multiple regions.
- Review and validate network design plans for copper retirement to ensure quality, reliability, and cost efficiency while maintaining fibre network performance.
- Analyze existing copper circuits and define migration paths, primarily to fibre, with occasional wireless considerations.
- Conduct circuit analysis and data alignment across multiple platforms to ensure accurate scope for build teams.
- Assist with design creation based on engineering and economic principles, following established network standards.
- Develop and support rehoming and grooming strategies for active circuits to optimize outside plant capacity.
- Prepare technical reports and provide timely updates on progress toward migration objectives.
- Drive process improvements and efficiencies as the program evolves.
Required Skills & Experience
- Telecom Infrastructure Expertise: In-depth knowledge of wireline outside plant (OSP) architecture, including terminals, equipment, materials, and naming conventions.
- Strong understanding of copper and fibre network design principles, sizing cables, reducing working terminal capacity, and grooming circuits.
- Tools & Systems: Hands-on experience with Facility Management Systems (FMS) and Spatial Network Records (fibre inventory systems).
- Experience Level: 3–5 years in network design or engineering roles, with a focus on copper-to-fibre migration or similar infrastructure optimization projects.
- Analytical & Technical Skills: Ability to perform detailed circuit analysis, data investigation, and alignment across multiple platforms.
- Collaboration & Delivery: Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to meet aggressive timelines in fast-paced environments.
Nice to have
- Post-secondary diploma or certification in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with tools such as Google Workspace, Domo, Tableau, JIRA, and Appian.
- Experience in network migration or infrastructure optimization projects.
