CONTRACT OR PERMANENT
Altitude Aerospace is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to support our client’s clean-sheet next generation commuter aircraft . The selected candidate will be responsible for taking the door structure and fuselage interface design from the conceptual phase through to detailed design suitable for manufacturing release.
This role involves extensive 3D modelling of metallic structural components, integration with door mechanisms, and close coordination with multidisciplinary engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, mature, and release 3D CAD models and engineering definitions for metallic door structures using CATIA V5, 3DX, or equivalent CAD platforms .
- Design metallic machined and sheet-metal structural components such as skin, frames, gussets, hinge, brackets, fittings, and structural sub-assemblies associated with the door system.
- Advance conceptual designs into fully detailed, manufacturing-ready structural definitions .
- Support fuselage interface definition, ensuring proper load paths, sealing, hinge and mechanism clearances, and installation requirements are met.
- Work with Stress Engineering team to achieve optimized, lightweight, certifiable structural solutions.
- Support rapid configuration changes, fast concepts to support trade studies
- Prepare and release engineering documentation including 3D models, 2D drawings, interface definitions, and installation drawings.
- Participate in design reviews and quickly implement design optimizations and adjustments required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant aerospace design standards, internal processes, and configuration management practices.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical or structural design within aerospace
- Demonstrated experience designing metallic primary structures , including machined components, sheet-metal parts, and mechanical assemblies.
- Experience with aircraft door structures , including passenger, service, or cargo doors.
- Background in primary metallic aircraft structures , such as fuselage frames, cutouts, floor structures, or major structural assemblies.
- Previous participation in a new aircraft development or major new product-development program.
- Proficiency with CATIA V5, 3DX , or comparable advanced 3D CAD tools.
- Strong understanding of metallic structural design, GD&T, and engineering configuration control.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Stress Engineering to optimize structural integrity and weight.
- Experience working fuselage structures, door mechanisms is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize his work, and teamwork skills to evolve in a fast-paced new aircraft program.
