About the Role
The Buyer will be responsible for day-to-day operations as it relates to supporting purchasing strategies defined by Commodity Leads. Processing of Purchase Orders and supporting efforts to reduce costs, commercial resolutions and supplier conflicts as a first point of contact for suppliers. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, this role will be part of a cross-functional team within a matrixed organization supporting our Mobility, Life Sciences and Technical & Service Divisions. This is a sole contributor role and will oversee and provide hands on support to Operations, Sales, Finance, Estimating, Quality and Program Managers for meeting program cost & timing requirements. Success in the Buyer role will be measured by the mutually agreed upon Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that drive the best cost, sustainable strategies for sourcing and support commodities with a roadmap for savings targets year over year. The goal is to achieve our overall objectives of lead time reduction, cost savings, and value-added services to sustain business success.
Responsibilities
- Daily support of operations, purchase order issuance, quote review and supplier cost analysis utilizing procurement processes and related tools.
- Learn and utilize ERP/MRP software's.
- Serve as the primary contact for suppliers and Material Coordinators.
- Support program managers by sourcing needed materials and services to meet program timelines and deliverables.
- Undergo training, policy and procedures related to our companies purchasing process.
- Support supplier review and development with our core team.
- Support centralized procurement and negotiate best in class savings to add value and efficiency to the organization.
- Process purchase orders; develops bids and proposals; and support / reconcile any supplier invoice discrepancies.
- Other duties as assigned when required for this position.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years functional buying experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Suitable Job Experience combined with education will also be considered.
- General knowledge of commodity materials such as MRO, Outsourcing of labor, machined parts as well as contracts and services.
- Capable of supplier negotiations with regards to contracts & services.
- Strong knowledge of the RFQ sourcing process and supplier quote analysis.
- Ability to understand value streams, cost drivers and how to break down supplier costs.
- Ability to understand and develop legal contracts.
- Results driven, self-starter, problem solver with proven ability to drive projects to a successful conclusion.
- Team oriented and excellent communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office products with an emphasis on Excel.
- Experience with and ERP systems and methodology.
- Familiarity with vendor / supplier management.
- Skilled at building rapport, developing relationships, understands business.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities / effective time management.
- Excellent ability to communicate and present at all levels of an organization.
- High tolerance and evolved ability to manage ambiguous situations.
