Overview
As we move through a period of exciting transformation and organizational change, Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) has an immediate opening for a Contract Sr. Project Manager to join the Project Management Office team.
Under the authority of the Professional Engineers Act , PEO licenses and governs over 91,500 licence and certificate holders and regulates the practice of professional engineering in Ontario. PEO’s mission is to regulate and advance the practice of engineering to protect the public interest. Position Summary
The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery of multiple complex projects within PEO’s Operational Plan for 2026. Reporting to the Manager, Program Management Office (PMO), the Sr. Project Manager will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage timelines and risks, engage stakeholders, and ensure deliverables meet regulatory, operational, technical and organizational expectations. This role requires exceptional project discipline, strong communication skills, and experience navigating complex regulatory or public-sector environments.
Responsibilities
Project Planning & Delivery
- Lead multiple complex projects including end-to-end project planning, delivery, and reporting.
- Lead the delivery of all project phases; from requirements definition through design, development, and implementation.
- Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, and change requests.
- Determine the appropriate documentation (communication plans, schedules/timelines, status reports, closure summary, budget, risk plan, etc.) for projects.
- Direct and coordinate activities of both internal and third-party project personnel to ensure project progress is on schedule, in scope and within budget.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate with Registration, Licensing, Legal, Communications, HR, Policy teams, and all other departments as required.
- Collaborate with IT staff to ensure business requirements are designed to help support solution architecture and design.
- Facilitate workshops, working groups, and consultations with internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage with senior leadership, including with the executive leadership team, and external advisors as needed.
- Prepare and present formal and informal presentations to stakeholders, including executive leadership team.
Reporting & Governance
- Prepare project status reports, dashboards, and presentations for PMO, Executive Leadership Team, and Council.
- Maintain project artifacts in accordance with PMO standards.
- Support readiness activities for project launch and implementation.
- Work with team members to gather information and determine possible/probable impacts to the project, document mitigation steps taken in troubleshooting and communicate these to the project team and stakeholders as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required:
- 7 to 10+ years of project management experience, preferably in public sector, regulatory, or professional association environments.
- Relevant post-secondary degree education; Bachelor in field of Business Administration, or equivalent.
- PMP or comparable project management certification is required.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and within scope.
- Demonstrated proactive ownership by anticipating risks, identifying opportunities, and initiating actions that drive project success.
- Experience in delivering high-impact projects directly related to organizational strategy.
- Experience managing projects with both business and technical workstreams (e.g. act as liaison between IT technical team and business units).
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies (waterfall, hybrid, or agile).
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and consensus-building skills.
- Experience developing or implementing programs, services, or processes.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-complexity environment.
- Ability to effectively engage with teams and stakeholders where no direct reporting relationship exists.
- Experience overseeing technology-enabled projects, including solution design, configuration, testing, and rollout.
- Proficiency with project management tools
Preferred
- Experience with competency-based assessment programs or workforce development initiatives.
- Familiarity with PEO, Canadian engineering licensure, or regulated profession frameworks.
- Experience supporting organizational change, training, or user adoption activities.
