The Opportunity
Western Water Associates is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Hydrologist to help lead, shape, and grow our hydrology practice across British Columbia. This role is ideal for a technically strong hydrologist who is ready to step into a leadership position leading, developing and growing a practice, mentoring staff, guiding project delivery, and influencing the direction of our surface water and watershed services.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior groundwater and environmental professionals to deliver integrated water resource solutions, while also helping to define and expand Western Water’s hydrology capabilities.
What You’ll Do
Hydrology at Western Water focuses on hydrometric station installation and monitoring for baseline studies and to support water licence applications, watershed source water protection, high and low flow analysis, and surface water and groundwater interaction studies. Responsibilities would include:
· Lead and grow the hydrology practice , including mentoring junior staff and supporting business development initiatives
· Plan, design, and execute surface water field programs , hydrometric station establishment, discharge measurements, water quality sampling
· Provide technical leadership in hydrologic analysis, interpretation, and reporting
· Develop and apply hydrologic and water balance models to support water availability, watershed planning, flood risk, and infrastructure assessments
· Act as a technical reviewer and project lead on hydrology-focused projects
· Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on integrated groundwater–surface water studies
General Qualifications
· Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline
· Approximately 5+ years of professional experience in hydrology or water resources consulting
· Demonstrated experience with surface water monitoring techniques , hydrologic data analysis, and interpretation
· Experience with hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWAT, HSPF, or similar)
· Strong technical writing, communication, and project management skills
· Registered Engineers and Geoscientists BC (P.Eng., P.Geo., or equivalent Professional Designation)
Preferred Attributes
· Experience leading projects and mentoring junior staff
· Familiarity with British Columbia regulatory frameworks , including water licensing, watershed planning, and flood risk management
· Interest in business development and contributing to strategic growth of service offerings

Compensation
$85,000–$125,000 annually , depending on experience, qualifications, and leadership role
