We’re working with a highly respected family law boutique in Toronto known for its discreet, sophisticated, and client-centred approach to resolving complex family matters. The firm is seeking an experienced Family Law Clerk (5+ years) to join their collaborative and well-established team.
The Role
You’ll take on a central, hands-on role in managing family law files from intake through to resolution. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable acting as a key point of contact for clients, counsel, and court staff. You will support senior lawyers on a full range of family law matters, contributing both strategic insight and strong technical execution.
Files You’ll Work On
A wide range of family law matters, including:
• Separation agreements and marriage/cohabitation contracts
• Parenting decision-making, parenting time, and mobility issues
• Child and spousal support disputes
• Property division and complex financial disclosure
• High-net-worth matters involving business valuations and trusts
• Urgent motions, restraining orders, and exclusive possession
• Mediation, arbitration, and collaborative family law processes
• Trial preparation and ongoing case management
• Appeals and motions to change
• Enforcement through FRO and court processes
What You’ll Be Doing
• Managing files from start to finish, including client intake, scheduling, and document control
• Preparing and drafting court materials such as applications, answers, motions, affidavits, briefs, net family property statements, and financial statements (Form 13/13.1)
• Conducting and organizing financial disclosure, including reviewing tax returns, corporate records, and banking documentation
• Communicating directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court staff
• Preparing materials for mediations, arbitrations, and hearings
• Filing documents through the Family Submissions Online Portal and coordinating service and issuance
• Assisting with trial preparation, including compiling briefs, summaries, books of authorities, and evidence
• Managing deadlines, limitation dates, and key milestones across multiple active files
• Providing ongoing administrative and strategic support to the lawyers on the team
What You Bring
• 5+ years of dedicated family law clerk experience in a law firm setting
• Strong working knowledge of the Family Law Rules, Courts of Justice Act, and Superior Court family procedures
• Proven experience drafting complex family law materials with accuracy and professionalism
• Comfort working with financial information and supporting Net Family Property calculations
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients during challenging periods
• High level of organization, time management, and autonomy in managing a busy file load
• Proficiency with DivorceMate, Family Law Portal, and standard law office software
• A commitment to delivering high-quality work with discretion, empathy, and attention to detail
