Our client is seeking a hands-on, Engineering Lead with a Marine Engineering background to serve as the technical authority for their growing steering-system manufacturing operation. This individual will leverage deep experience with shipboard mechanical and electrical systems—especially steering, hydraulic, or integrated marine systems—to diagnose issues, interpret complex diagrams, and guide engineering solutions from concept through assembly. Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical authority for steering-system design, integration, troubleshooting, and overall engineering workflow.
- Review full system diagrams, drawings, and component layouts to identify issues, anticipate integration challenges, and provide corrective technical guidance.
- Work hands-on with on-site assembly teams to ensure successful build-out of steering systems, applying practical marine engineering experience.
- Collaborate with and mentor a team of senior trainers and engineers (approx. 8 total), offering leadership rooted in real-world shipboard management experience.
- Communicate proactively with owners, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders, providing clear updates, technical explanations, and status reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to remove engineering bottlenecks and help the business keep pace with increasing customer demand.
Qualifications
- Marine Engineering background with strong understanding of steering, propulsion, or integrated mechanical/electrical marine systems.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and review engineering designs, schematics, diagrams, and system layouts in fast-paced environments.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude—especially experience with assembly, troubleshooting, and a genuine interest in how systems are built.
- Mechanical, Electrical, or dual-discipline engineering experience; P.Eng not required.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to keep pace with rapid conversations, manage strong personalities, and provide clear technical direction.
- Able to work on-site in North Vancouver (free parking provided).
Pay: $110,000-120,000 annually
