Do you want to work for one of the largest utilities in Ontario? We're looking for System Operators to help monitor and control the safe, reliable operation of our electrical systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Full control of the company's entire distribution and sub-transmission electrical grid of all voltages in planned and emergency conditions.
- Authorizing the safe operation of all electrical grid devices and equipment and controlling access to all electrical plants and substations.
- Coordinating all power interruptions and emergencies by dispatching and directing staff to safely and effectively take corrective measures for isolation, emergency repairs and restoration purposes.
- Continually monitoring all distribution and sub-transmission parameters and directing the appropriate and corrective actions based on loading and/or voltage concerns.
- Preparing and issuing work protection to all authorized company's employees and all authorized contractors working on the distribution and sub-transmission electrical grid in accordance with IHSA and the Utility Work Protection Code and the company’s policies and procedures.
- Utilizing SCADA systems to monitor and safely operate the company's distribution and sub- transmission system.
- Ensuring detailed, proper operating records, schematics, system device loading records, and outage records are completed, checked and issued as required.
- Scheduling, coordinating and approving the following: Overhead and underground distribution system switching, Municipal substation operations, Municipal transformer station (MTS) operations, Sub-transmission system operations.
- Utilizing and controlling intelligent self-healing network devices to assist in the safe and effective restoration of power to the distribution and sub-transmission network.
- Reviewing system loading, equipment loading and voltage drop at various supply points and recommending corrective measures as required.
- Coordinating and directing distribution and sub-transmission switching with the Hydro One, Ontario Grid Control Centre to confirm appropriate load balancing and load transfers are in place to ensure the grid is functioning as safe and as cost effectively as possible.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate from an accredited institute in an Electrical/Electronics Technology or Technician program and be eligible for certification by OACETT in the province of Ontario.
- Successful completion of Level 3 or above of the MEARIE Operator-In-Training Program and in the process of becoming a Certified EDA System Operator.
- Thorough knowledge of IHSA Utility Work Protection Code.
- Extensive PC experience and knowledge of SCADA, GIS and OMS packages is highly desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
- Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent organizational, communication and verbal skills with a strong commitment to customer service
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and perform all assigned duties with minimal supervision.
