Reporting to the Senior Manager, we are seeking a Junior Construction Estimator/Coordinator to join our team and assist in managing administrative and coordination tasks throughout the bid and proposal process.
The Key Responsibilities Include:
- Maintain excellent relationships with clients, architects, consultants and subcontractors.
- Review drawings, specifications, reports, and addenda for scope of work.
- Prepare cost estimates using quantity take-off procedures and interpret technical specifications for bid documents.
- Prepare bid comparison sheets, ensuring subcontractor quotes are accurately scoped and aligned.
- Analyze tenders and prepare Tender Analysis spreadsheets for review by the Senior Manager.
- Assist the Senior Manager in identifying cost-saving alternatives and design efficiencies.
- Monitor project costs to ensure project profitability, including performing regular detailed cost reviews regularly and to ensure budget forecast accuracy.
- Coordinate attendance and documentation for pre-bid meetings, site visits, and clarifications.
- Assist with final bid close activities, including last-minute price updates, subcontractor communications, and submission formatting.
- Prepare construction schedules, subcontracts and purchase orders and monitor their progress and schedule.
- Set up project reporting procedures, including cost reports, file logs, submittal logs, change logs and schedule of values.
- Provide performance status reports regarding cost forecast, schedule, and safety.
- Monitor project safety reporting and conduct regular safety inspections.
- Assist the Project Manager in developing and monitoring the project schedule and budget.
- Assist the Project Superintendent in establishing the construction plan and project safety programs.
- Prepare/verify progress payments to Client and Subcontractors and monitor progress.
- Involved in all aspects of project close-out, including archiving of documents, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies and warranty work.
- Prepare handover packages for awarded projects, including estimate breakdowns, subcontractor quotes, and assumptions.
Role Requirements:
- 2-3 years of proven experience in construction estimating, preferably within the commercial, industrial, or institutional sectors.
- Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contract documents.
- Familiarity with Microsoft &Estimating software is an asset (MS Office, Bluebeam, Plan swift, Building Connected, Procore, OST, Earthworks Modelling).
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and client groups.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Sound critical thinking skills and proven ability to exercise good judgement.
Experience
- Minimum Degree/Post-secondary diploma, construction management discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Previous coordination experience within a mid-size general contractor would be an asset.
- 2-3 years of experience as an estimator and/or coordinator, or equivalent experience.
