Our heavy industrial manufacturing client in the Toronto area is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead their mechanical engineering department and drive projects from concept through production. What You’ll Do
- As the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will provide strategic and technical leadership while ensuring successful project execution and continuous improvement across the department.
- Lead and manage a mechanical team (5-6) of designers, hydraulics techs, tooling techs
- Oversee the design, analysis, and development of mechanical components and systems
- Provide technical direction across design, testing, prototyping, and validation
- Manage engineering projects end-to-end, including scope, cost, schedule, and risk
- Review prototype testing results and drive performance, reliability, and safety improvements
- Establish training programs, best practices, and process improvements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
- Identify and support new product and project opportunities
- Manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development
- Communicate project status, risks, and technical issues to senior leadership
- Stay current with emerging technologies and implement advancements
- Resolve engineering issues and ensure products meet quality and regulatory requirements
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role
- Proven success managing engineering teams and delivering complex projects in heavy industrial environments ( metal, stamping, precision tooling, metalforming, etc)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and CAD tools
- Excellent project management, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
- Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and QA practices
