About the Client:
Our client is a Toronto-based startup reimagining how homeowners maintain and manage their most valuable asset: their home. Built on a community-driven model, their app connects homeowners with trusted local service providers, recommended by real neighbors, not algorithms. It’s more than a marketplace, it’s a digital ecosystem that fosters trust, transparency, and collaboration between homeowners and local service providers.
The Opportunity:
The mission of the DESIGN LEAD will be to reimagine and level up the core marketplace experience. This includes the interconnected workflows, trust mechanics, incentives, and business tools that power both sides of the ecosystem.
This is a role for a systems thinker — someone who designs with second and third order consequences in mind.
Every decision changes how homeowners discover Pros, how Pros manage their livelihoods, and how the marketplace balances incentives, trust, and long-term value.
What you will own:
You will work on problems where B2B, B2C, and B2B2C all collide, and where the right design choice must work for the customer, for the Pro, and for the business.
- Lead design for the core marketplace experience, ensuring coherence across homeowner-facing and Pro-facing surfaces
- Bring structure to complex workflows and multi-sided interactions; understand the chain reactions your design decisions create
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to define the right incentives, trust signals, and communication loops across the marketplace
- Apply a design system to create consistency and scalability, without imposing unnecessary rigidity
- Translate a mission-driven value statement into product decisions: build things customers love and that work for the business
- Help establish the design culture within a company at an inflection point; speak up in group settings, guide thinking, and challenge assumptions
- Contribute to marketplace strategy, thinking holistically about integrations, workflows, and how different actors interact inside the ecosystem
- Ground your work in an understanding of home maintenance, renovation, and the realities of the Toronto housing market
The Skills/Requirement Needed to Succeed:
- A Lead Product Designer experienced in complex, interconnected products
- Someone who looks beyond the immediate feature to understand downstream effects, incentives, and system health
- Fluent in design systems (maintenance or evolution more important than building one from scratch)
- Views “build things customers love and that work for the business” as the true definition of product craft
- Has experience in small to mid-sized tech companies, ideally during a scaling phase or marketplace evolution
- Thrives in ambiguity, finds clarity inside complexity, and moves easily between strategic thinking and detailed execution
- Comfortable contributing in group settings; collaborative but not quiet
- Values diversity of perspectives and is motivated to be part of building a gender-diverse product and design team
- Excited by early-stage momentum and eager to learn fast
- You can be in an office in downtown (Adelaide and Sherbourne) 2 - 3 days/week.
