The Director, Tax Operations Technology, serves as the technology owner responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the Global Tax Technology team, with a focus on modernization across the portfolio. This role involves leading and overseeing Tax Operations Technology globally within Capital Markets Technology, ensuring business strategies, targets, and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
The Director is expected to develop and implement the appropriate Tax Operations technology strategy that mitigates operational risk and delivers value, in collaboration with Global Wholesale Operations stakeholders and regional Technology teams. This includes ensuring compliance with governing internal standards, policies and procedures, as well as regulations in Canada (CRA), the U.S. (IRS, etc.) and abroad.
Key Accountabilities
In this role, the Director will be responsible for:
- Technology Strategy: Developing and executing a roadmap for tax technology aligned with the organization’s digital transformation goals.
- System Implementation: Overseeing the deployment of tax engines, automation tools, and integration with Books and financial systems.
- Data Management: Ensuring accurate tax data collection, storage, and reporting across global jurisdictions.
- Compliance & Risk: Implementing controls to meet regulatory requirements (e.g., FATCA, CRS, BEPS, etc.).
- Innovation: Driving automation, AI, and analytics for tax forecasting and scenario modeling.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborating with Tax, Finance, IT, and Risk teams globally.
- Process Improvement: Implementing new practices and frameworks such as Agile, Lean, Design thinking, and DevOps.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Building a high-performance environment and implementing a people strategy to attract, retain, develop, and motivate a team (currently 5-7 staff) by fostering an inclusive work environment.
- Managing succession and development planning for the team and communicating vision/values/business strategy.
- Leading and driving a customer-focused culture throughout the team.
- Planning and directing application/technology projects and ongoing support, and leading teams of Project Managers, Developers, and Business Analysts.
Required Skills and Experience

- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; a CPA or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in tax technology or related roles, with at least 5 years in leadership positions.
- Track Record: Proven success in implementing tax technology solutions in financial institutions.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of global tax regulations and compliance frameworks.
- Emerging Technology: Familiarity with data analytics tools and emerging technologies (AI, RPA).
- Communication: Effective communication skills for executive leadership, business leaders, and staff.
