Position: Construction Field Coordinator
Location: Ottawa, ON
Type: Existing vacancy
Hours: 40 hours per week, includes weekend shifts every other week
Compensation Range (includes salary & shift premium): $65,000 - $80,000
Overview
The Field Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of site management, promoting, and enforcing safety, and assisting in managing construction schedules. The Field Coordinator will work alongside in-house and external construction personnel to help ensure construction is executed in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining integrity of design and will work closely with the organization to ensure feasibility and costing of projects. This is a developmental role where the successful applicant will be mentored by Construction Superintendents and senior construction leadership. The Field Coordinator will spend time on the site enabling trades partners to complete their work efficiently. This is a boots-on-the-ground role and site presence is expected.
Responsibilities
- Enforce safety and encourage safe work practices and behaviours
- Provide leadership and lead by example
- Collaborate with site safety officer to establish and maintain accurate site safety documentation including orientations, safe work procedures and all other safety associated documentation
- Participate in joint health and safety meetings as required and ensure site operation compliance with safety regulations through daily site walks and engaged safety participation
- Assist in the full project cycle from site mobilization to building turnover.
- Assist the Superintendent with site logistic planning and trade coordination
- Assist the Superintendent with project schedule management
- Maintain quality assurance and control procedures throughout the duration of construction
- Participate in subtrade meetings to organize and coordinate site activities
- Participate in internal meetings to organize and coordinate site activities
- Coordinate site inspections with consultants and city officials for various stages of the project to ensure compliance with relevant codes (OBC, etc.), regulations and by-laws. Manage the building turnover process including building commissioning and deficiency closeout.
- Create and issue bi-weekly site progress reports
Qualifications
- Prior high-rise residential construction industry experience is an asset
- A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques
- Commitment to working in a team environment
- Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Able to effectively communicate with all types of staff, including labourers, technical, professional, and senior management
- Able to build and maintain lasting working relationships
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam is an asset but not a requirement
- P. Eng /EIT enrollment is an asset but not a requirement
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering from a recognized University is an asset but not a requirement
Working Conditions
- Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required
- Work both indoors and outdoors
- Will be exposed to construction site – safety training will be provided if certificates are not up to date
