Overview and Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Director of Clinics, Perioperative and Procedures, the OR/PACU Manager at Schroeder Ambulatory Centre will be a visionary leader who brings creativity, innovation, and sound judgment to the development of a high-performing perioperative department. Initially focused on delivering exceptional perioperative care to ambulatory orthopedic patients, the successful candidate will bring a broad range of operating room experience, including orthopedics, gynecology, and otolaryngology—and a strong commitment to patient-centred care. This role will play a key leadership part in shaping the growth and evolution of the surgical program, ensuring an outstanding patient experience as services expand at Schroeder Ambulatory Centre.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the launch and day-to-day operations of the OR and PACU, establishing foundational processes for staff education, quality and risk management, resource utilization, and financial and human resource oversight, while proactively resolving patient care issues as the program scales.
- Build, motivate, and retain a high-performing perioperative team by creating a supportive, agile environment for patients, staff, and physicians, and by fostering strong interprofessional collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal partners and external organizations to support the growth and integration of the surgical program.
- Identify, design, and implement innovative, scalable care delivery models that improve efficiency, patient flow, and the overall patient experience, while supporting the full scope of professional practice.
- Drive early-stage quality improvement initiatives and special projects, providing hands-on fiscal stewardship through budget development, inventory and supply chain optimization, equipment planning, and the creative use of material and technological resources to support program growth.
Corporate Responsibilities:
- Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines.
- Be responsible for and ensure that all staff supervised are trained and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Schroeder Ambulatory Centre Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
Education, Skills & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience), with a strong foundation in clinical and operational leadership
- Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Perioperative Services or Operating Room settings, with hands-on exposure to multiple surgical specialties.
- Recent, relevant managerial experience leading teams in dynamic environments, with a proven ability to build and scale high-performing perioperative programs.
- Track record of driving innovation, implementing process improvements, developing policies, and inspiring creativity and collaboration to achieve ambitious program and organizational goals.
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to anticipate challenges, solve problems proactively, and make data-driven decisions in real time.
- Demonstrated resilience and adaptability under pressure, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines while guiding teams through growth, change, and expansion.
- Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check/vulnerable sector check.
- Provide proof of Immunization and TB records.
