The Opportunity
As a Summer Day Camp Staff member, you will play a key role in supporting childrens learning, growth, and enjoyment throughout the summer. You will help create a safe, child-centered, and inclusive environment while supporting childrens physical, emotional, and social development. Oursummer camps will run from June 15th, 2026 to September 04, 2026, providing a fun, engaging, and enriching experience for children across the region.
Summer Day Camp Staff may be assigned to different roles throughout the program, working either as a Counsellor leading group activity or as a Support Worker providing one-on-one assistance to children who need additional support, depending on program needs and your skills.
Responsibilities
Summer Day Camp Counsellor
- Lead and supervise groups of children by planning, organizing, and delivering engaging daily activities that promote creativity, participation, and fun.
- Support the diverse needs of children within a group setting and collaborate with families and team members to promote positive outcomes for all participants.
- Maintain structured daily routines for groups, ensuring activities, transitions, and required documentation are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure group programming and supervision comply with New Brunswick Child Care Facility Standards and Abuse Protocol Practices at all times.
- Plan, implement, and adapt group-based programming in alignment with YMCA values and New Brunswick child care standards.
- Integrate YMCA Healthy Child Development principles into all group activities, fostering inclusion, respect, and positive behavior.
- Actively supervise groups to ensure safety, promptly responding to incidents or emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Summer Day Camp Support Worker
- Provide one-on-one support to a child to promote inclusion and participation in camp activities
- Understand each child and their familys specific needs and plan for successful outcomes
- Ensure all daily routines are followed, documented, and completed in a timely manner
- Comply with New Brunswick Child Care Facility Standards and Abuse Protocol Practices
- Plan and support programming in alignment with YMCA and New Brunswick standards
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to childrens learning and inclusive practices informed by current research
- Adhere to YMCA employee and child care policy manuals
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with Department of Social Development requirements
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
- Complete and submit weekly documentation to the supervisor as required
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a Day Camp, child care, or youth program setting is an asset.
- Strong work ethic with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, with cooperative leadership skills in a group setting.
- Flexible and adaptable with work hours, locations, and program needs.
- Employment is contingent upon a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a cleared Social Development Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to start date.
- Availability to work for the entire duration of the summer camp program starting from June 15, 2026 to September 4, 2026.
