Acero Engineering Inc. (“Acero”), a dynamic company providing engineering, procurement and construction management expertise to the Oil and Gas industry is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill a role as an
Junior Mechanical Engineer/EIT.
Acero is focused on facility and pipeline engineering, procurement and construction management services; from concept evaluation to plant start-up. Our core service offering is in-house project management, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering, project engineering, procurement, regulatory services, civil and structural engineering, and construction management.
Responsibilities
- Prepare mechanical data sheets for mechanical equipment & packages in accordance with the project specifications
- Have a strong aptitude for piping and/or pipeline and equipment specifications
- Have a solid understanding of P&IDs, isometrics, line lists and similar deliverables
- Daily usage of codes, standards and specifications pertaining to oil and gas industry equipment, vessels, pipe, etc. This includes, but is not limited to: ASME, ANSI, CSA, API.
- Produce and review documents, design reports, design calculations and drawings in accordance with engineering quality standards and client requirements
- Review the technical data sheets for oil and gas equipment packages; technical selection, calculation, sizing and evaluation of packaged equipment
- Participate in client/vendor/contractor meetings including HAZOPS, model reviews and design reviews
- Assist with mechanical bid evaluations for equipment
- Assist with project schedules, engineering manhour estimates, and cost estimates
- Request vendor information, compile and distribute RFQs, evaluate quotes, and recommend purchase awards
- Assist with the preparation and review of scope documents, reports, DBMs, PEPs, project kickoff documentation, etc.
- Understand regulatory codes and the implication on Acero’s design (e.g. spacing)
- Understand and participate in squad checks
- Other tasks/responsibilities, as required
Required Education, Experience And Skills
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 2 years of experience; having functioned as a “Mechanical” EIT and/or a “Project” EIT
- Registered as an EIT with APEGA in Alberta
- Understanding of mechanical engineering design principles and design codes such as ASME, CSA, API, TEMA, ASTM, NACE
- Understanding of piping and equipment specifications
- Knowledge of various equipment used in oil & gas such as vessels, tanks, heat exchangers & coolers, heaters, rotating equipment (pumps and compressors), packaged equipment, valves & specialty items
- Understanding of material selection and welding
- Knowledge of fabrication and construction techniques and processes
- Ability to write clear, technical reports
- Highly organized with the ability to work within tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A desire to be a team player and contributor in a dynamic, quality-focused organization
- Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
