Your Role in Supporting Our Community:
As a Community and Member Specialist with Vancity Community Foundation, you will be the primary point of contact for members - welcoming them to the space, supporting their day-to-day needs, and building strong relationships that foster community and connection. You’ll plan and deliver events and programming, provide warm, solutions-focused support, and help ensure our shared spaces, operations, and communications run smoothly so members can do their best work. This role is ideal for someone who is community-minded, highly organized, and excited to contribute to inclusive, member-centred work.
This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at our 312 Main head office and will report directly to the Community and Membership Manager. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Planning and executing events and programming that help members connect with each other, the broader community, and opportunities for professional and personal development
- Developing and supporting impact measurements, evaluation tools, and feedback loops to understand member satisfaction and improve programming
- Developing and implementing communication approaches that keep members informed and foster positive relationships with neighbors, Downtown Eastside residents, and community organizations
- Greeting and supporting community members and guests, responding to in-person and online inquiries, and helping members navigate the space while ensuring consistent front desk coverage during business hours
- Supporting member move-ins and move-outs, conducting member orientation sessions for new members, and helping maintain high levels of member satisfaction and retention
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by keeping meeting rooms, common areas, and kitchen spaces stocked, tidy, and set up with functioning A/V equipment
- Coordinating room reservations, event bookings, and contracts; issuing and following up on event invoices; and maintaining accurate member, event, and inventory databases
- Responding to member complaints, disputes, and conflicts in a timely, solutions-focused way and supporting special projects, tours, and operational improvements for the Vancity Community Foundation as required
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Bringing 1–3 years of experience in the non-profit sector or an equivalent combination of lived and work experience supporting community members
- Demonstrating a working knowledge of issues impacting the Downtown Eastside and a desire to engage with and support organizations rooted in this community
- Showing confidence with basic meeting and event room audio-visual equipment and a willingness to learn new tools and systems as needed
- Taking initiative as a self-starter who quickly grasps new information, adapts to change, and collaborates effectively with the broader team
- Applying strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to resolve issues, support members, and contribute to the development of new programs and services
- Bringing organized and systematic planning and coordination skills to manage multiple projects, member needs, and event or meeting bookings in a dynamic environment
- Valuing a range of educational and learning pathways; while no specific degree or certification is required, you can demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this role
Extra Skills That Set You Apart:
- Having experience supervising volunteers or peer staff in a community or non-profit environment
- Bringing additional experience with A/V equipment or event production, beyond the basics required for meeting and event rooms
- Having prior experience in a coworking, community hub, or shared-space environment that centres community-building and collaboration
- Proficiency with platforms such as Avigilon, OfficeRND, Slack, Mailchimp, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Forms
You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:
- Self-starter – You take initiative, scale up your learning quickly, and are motivated to work in a dynamic environment where change is constant
- Community-engaged – You have a genuine desire to work alongside the Downtown Eastside community and support organizations that serve this neighborhood
- Solutions-focused problem solver – You use sound judgment to resolve issues, contribute ideas, and participate in developing new programs and services
- Organized and systematic – You effectively plan, coordinate, and juggle multiple tasks, ensuring events, bookings, and shared spaces run smoothly for members
We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.
