Job Description: Behavior Technician
Peel Autism Services operates in a centre-based setting. We provide ABA Therapy to individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and we are thrilled to announced that we have a couple openings available at our centre.
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Behavior Technician to provide personalized support to individuals with ASD. This role focuses on assisting clients enhance life skills, improve their academic skills and manage behaviours in a supportive and structured environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a background in social work, psychology, or related fields, and a genuine passion for helping others lead independent, fulfilling lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adaptive and Cognitive Skills:
- Implementation of individualized treatment plans to enhance independence, self-sufficiency, and community involvement as well as supporting clients with school skills.
- Provide guidance in enhancing social skills, communication techniques, and daily routines to build confidence and increase self-esteem.
- Foster the development of problem-solving and decision-making abilities, enabling clients to live as independently as possible.
- Offer emotional support and companionship to clients, fostering a safe and nurturing environment that promotes overall well-being.
- Behavior Management:
- Implement individualized behavior management strategies as outlined in treatment plans, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage desired behaviors.
- Monitor and document behavioral patterns, identifying triggers and responding effectively to challenging behaviors in a calm, respectful manner.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including social workers, psychologists, and other healthcare providers, to assess and modify behavior management approaches as needed.
- Promote and model appropriate behaviors that support social integration, emotional regulation, and overall mental health.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education or a related field is required.
- Previous experience in ABA Therapy, behavioral support, or related roles is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques and life skills coaching.
- Ability to work effectively with clients facing a variety of physical, developmental, and emotional challenges.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient, with a commitment to respecting clients' dignity and promoting autonomy.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage time effectively in a home-based environment.
Working Conditions:
- This is a part-time position minimum of 9 hours per week
- Setting is home-based or centre based.
- Hours are schedule based on client / family needs.
- The position requires mental flexibility to adapt to client needs in real-time.
- The role may require occasional travel within the local community to assist clients in navigating public spaces or attending appointments.

This job description outlines the essential responsibilities and qualifications for an Instructor Therapist/Behavior Technician. It is designed to ensure that the individual providing care is not only capable of addressing the physical needs of clients but also equipped to guide them in developing important life skills and managing behaviors in a thoughtful, constructive way.
With this role candidates should be able to identify problematic behaviours, independently identify support and barriers to learning and bring this information to treatment on a day-to-day basis, being able to complete all associated data collection and other documentation needed.
Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year experience working with children/youth with ASD and have a positive attitude towards clients and their families.
