The Export Compliance Coordinator supports the Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance in managing the Company’s business activities to comply with the Canadian Export and Import Permits Act, Defence Production Act, and Customs Act; the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations; and other applicable global trade compliance laws and regulations. This position also manages day-to-day export control activities to ensure the Company’s exports of hardware, software, and technical data meet all legal requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare export permit applications, re-export authorizations and other authorization requests for internal review and submission; keep records related to such applications; and update and renew export permits as required.
- Liaise with various internal and external parties to facilitate the export process and address any issues that arise.
- Review and approve shipments for export and ensure all export documents meet applicable legal requirements.
- Maintain records and submit reports relating to exports as required by any government regulatory agencies (GAC, BIS, etc.).
- Ensure that Company registrations and renewals with government regulatory agencies for the various programs related to export control are completed in a timely manner.
- Review consulting contracts for compliance with export control regulations.
- Work with the Company’s Controlled Goods and Security Specialist to evaluate and enhance the Company’s Controlled Goods Security Plans and Procedures.
- Maintain and update the Export Control and Security SharePoint site and Shared Folders.
Education & Experience
- Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the administration of an Export Compliance Program.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of the Canadian Export and Import Permits Act and the Defence Production Act.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of U.S. export control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.
- Must be attentive to detail and possess strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong writing skills required to convey information clearly, concisely and accurately.
- Able to prioritize and handle workload volume, often requiring quick turn-around.
- Able to follow manager’s directions and/or instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Able to effectively interact with employees, customers, and contractors.
- Must display a high degree of initiative, discretion, and integrity.
- High proficiency with MS Word, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro and other technical tools and applications.
