The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Accountant with Canadian public practice experience who can blend hands-on tax and compliance work with group-level financial leadership across multiple operating companies.
This role is designed for a professional who enjoys working closely with ownership and leadership, managing complex tax and financial matters, and providing strategic guidance — without the pressure of a traditional executive schedule.
This position begins as a 3-month contract with a clear pathway to full-time permanent employment based on performance and mutual fit.
What You’ll Lead & Deliver:
Accounting & Tax Leadership (Hands-On)
- Prepare and review T1, T2, T3, and T5 tax filings
- Oversee GST/HST compliance and CRA correspondence
- Review bookkeeping and reconciliations (QuickBooks Online)
- Prepare and review Notice to Reader (Compilation) financial statements using CaseWare
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting and tax standards across all entities
- Support proactive tax planning and regulatory risk management
Strategic Finance & Advisory
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to ownership and executive leadership
- Review financial performance, cash flow, and profitability across business units
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Develop and monitor KPIs and management reporting
- Identify risks, efficiencies, and growth opportunities across the group
Multi-Entity Governance
- Ensure accounting consistency and internal controls across multiple companies
- Strengthen governance, reporting standards, and compliance frameworks
- Mentor internal accounting and admin staff (oversight, not day-to-day management)
- Support M&A, business launches, and strategic initiatives as required
Must-Have Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
- 2–3+ years of experience in a Canadian public accounting firm
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian tax and compliance (T1, T2, T3, T5, GST/HST)
- Professional designation: CMA, CA, CGA, or CPA
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, or MBA
- Hands-on experience with:
- CaseWare, QuickBooks Online, Profile Tax Software, & MS Excel
- Independent, reliable, and comfortable working with minimal supervision
