Position Overview
The Calgary Chamber is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented
Data Analyst Intern to support the development of data-driven decision making and digital literacy across the organization. This role will contribute to building the data infrastructure needed to measure performance, understand member engagement, and inform strategic decisions.
The intern will work with tools such as Power BI, Excel, and AI-enabled technologies (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Power BI AI) to help streamline data preparation, automate reporting, and generate meaningful insights. They will also assist in developing staff capability to interpret and use data effectively by creating user-friendly dashboards, training materials, and guidance on analytics best practices.
This position offers a unique opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in data analytics, AI-assisted reporting, and organizational capability within a modern, purpose-driven non-profit environment from May 4 to August 28, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection, Preparation, and Analysis
- Assist in collecting, cleaning, organizing, and validating data from multiple internal systems (CRM, event platforms, surveys, financial systems, etc.).
- Develop and document processes that ensure accuracy, accessibility, and consistency of data.
- Conduct exploratory analysis to identify trends, gaps, and performance opportunities.
Reporting and Visualization
- Support the development of dashboards, scorecards, and visual reports using Power BI and/or similar tools.
- Translate complex datasets into clear, professional reports tailored to various audiences (staff, leadership, committees, board).
- Design prototypes for data dashboards that illustrate KPIs tied to business goals (e.g., membership growth, event performance, engagement metrics).
Building Data Literacy Across the Organization
- Help create user-friendly guides, toolkits, training materials, and templates that enable staff to better understand and use data in their roles.
- Facilitate awareness of best practices for data interpretation, analytics, and measurement.
- Provide informal staff support on using dashboards and interpreting results.
Support Development of Data Infrastructure
- Participate in assessing current data systems, workflows, and reporting gaps.
- Explore opportunities to leverage AI-enabled tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Power BI AI, ChatGPT) to automate data preparation, enhance analytics, and improve reporting efficiency.
- Recommend improvements to processes, data models, and system integrations.
- Assist in documenting and mapping data architecture to support long-term reporting and analytics.
Special Projects
- Collaborate with internal teams on analytics related to member experience, event performance, advocacy initiatives, or digital transformation projects.
- Conduct benchmarking or environmental scans to support business cases or grant-funded initiatives.
Required
Qualifications and Requirements
- Currently enrolled in, or recent graduate of, a post-secondary program in data analytics, statistics, computer science, business, economics, or related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of data visualization or analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present data visually and explain findings clearly.
- Interest or experience in AI-driven analytics or productivity tools, and a willingness to experiment with emerging technologies to improve workflows and insights.
Preferred
- Familiarity with relational databases, SQL, and/or data modeling concepts.
- Experience with data cleaning, ETL, or statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of CRM systems, business analytics, or performance measurement frameworks.
