Key Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support
- Provide individualized or small-group support to students as directed by the classroom teacher orPrincipal.
- Support students with diverse learning needs, including neurodiversity, language learning, and physical or developmental challenges.
- Assiststudents with academic tasks, organization, and study skills.
- Implement accommodations and strategies outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or student support plans.
- Foster student independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.
Classroom Support
- Assistthe classroom teacher with lesson delivery.
- Support classroom management and student engagement strategies.
- Helpmaintaina positive, safe, and respectful learning environment.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with teachers, counselors, andprincipalto support student success.
- Participate in meetings related to student learning and well-being whenappropriate.
- Communicate relevant observations about student progress or challenges to the classroom teacher orprincipal.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information at all times.
Student Well-Being and Inclusion
- Support students social-emotional development and sense of belonging.
- Model respectful, inclusive, and caring behaviour.
- Assistwith behavior support plans when applicable.
- Encourage positive peer interactions and relationship-building.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- Post-secondary training in Education, Special Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related field.
- Experience working with children or youth in an educational or support setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a student-centered approach.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred
- Knowledge of diverse learning needs and inclusive teaching practices.
- Basic understanding of assistive technology or adaptive strategies.
