Role Summary
This senior leadership position oversees structural engineering projects from inception to completion, managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering wood-framed, concrete, steel, and masonry structures for commercial, multi-dwelling, and institutional buildings. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, client relationships, and process improvements while ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Technical Leadership
- Manage multiple structural projects from concept through construction, including design, detailing, specifications, and permitting.
- Provide structural details and prepare documentation using modeling software like ETABS, SAFE, and S-Frame.
- Oversee teams of engineers and designers to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate effectively with building owners, architects, and contractors on design intent, timelines, rough cost estimates, and project direction.
- Guide projects through permitting processes and construction phases.
Operational Excellence
- Develop and maintain departmental procedures, processes, and design documentation standards.
- Track progress across multiple projects and provide strategic input.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 10–12 years of structural engineering experience in commercial, multi-dwelling units, and institutional projects involving wood, concrete, steel, and masonry.
- At least 5 years in management/leadership roles.
- Proficiency in structural modeling software (ETABS, SAFE, S-Frame).
- Registered P.Eng. with APEGA.
- In-depth knowledge of NBCC, structural principles, permitting, and construction processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Assets
- P.Eng. registration in other Canadian jurisdictions.
