Position Title: Elders Liaison
Reports to: Manager, Elders Services
Job Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Elders Services, the Elders Liaison is responsible for supporting and advocating for the elders within the Haisla Nation community. This includes assisting elders with navigating services, advocating for elder needs, and facilitating communication between elders and the broader community, fostering a supportive environment that honours the traditions and values of the elders.

The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous and proud community, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We believe in building a strong and thriving community, with healthy and happy members and a sustained and prosperous environment. We are about 2023+ people, with approximately 700 living in Kitamaat Village. We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted advocate for elders’ needs and interests to empower them to access the resources they need and have their voices heard within the community.
- Support elders in understanding their rights and accessing services such as healthcare, housing, community programs, and social support.
- Assist with paperwork applications, and other administrative tasks to facilitate access to services.
- Facilitate communication between elders, their families, service providers, and the broader community.
- Collaborate with community members to promote elder involvement and ensure their contributions are valued and respected.
- Gather feedback from elders on effectiveness of the Haisla Nation Council’s services and programs, recommending improvements as needed.
- Ensure all interactions with elders are conducted with respect for traditional values and practices.
- Other duties as requested by the Manager, Elders Services.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with elders or in a community support role an asset.
- Current Level 1 First Aid/CPR certification.
- Mental Health First Aid.
- Knowledge of community resources, healthcare, and social services available to elders.
- Strong advocacy skills and a commitment to elder care and support.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to handle complex and emotionally challenging situations.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient with a strong commitment to supporting the well-being of the elders.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative and productive working relationships with a variety of individuals.
- Creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.
- Passion for ongoing professional development and growth.
- Valid BC driver’s license and own vehicle is an asset.
- Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).

Salary Range: $22.95/hr - $28.35/hr
