My client is an established and growing mining company that is advancing a major Canadian project toward construction and operations. As part of this transition, the organization is building out its Sustainability and External Relations function and is seeking multiple professionals across three levels:
- Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement Lead (Senior / Lead)
- Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement Analyst (Intermediate)
- Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement Coordinator (Junior/Intermediate)
These roles collectively support the development and execution of Indigenous and community engagement strategies, ensuring respectful, transparent, and effective relationships with Indigenous Nations, local communities, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Remote / WFH / Hybrid: Hybrid or 100% remote
Travel: 10%
Salary: Lead $115k - $135k; Analyst $95k - 110k; Coordinator $70k - $100k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching (Final salary will reflect each candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations, as well as the overall value they bring to the role.)
Role Scope: Across all levels, these roles contribute to the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement programs. The team is responsible for building long-term, trust-based relationships, supporting regulatory and permitting processes, managing commitments, and ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of engagement activities. The work is both strategic and operational, ranging from high-level engagement planning and negotiations to on-the-ground coordination, communications, and administrative support.
Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement Specialist (Senior / Lead Level):
This role is accountable for leading engagement strategy and execution. It involves direct engagement and, at times, negotiation with Indigenous Nations, oversight of engagement plans, and ensuring all commitments, agreements, and regulatory requirements are met. The Specialist represents the company externally with senior stakeholders, collaborates with legal and technical teams on agreements, and provides leadership across the engagement function. This role requires strong judgment, experience in complex stakeholder environments, and the ability to proactively manage risk and reputation.
Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement Analyst (Intermediate Level):
This role bridges strategy and execution, supporting the delivery of engagement programs while ensuring strong internal coordination and documentation. The Analyst plays a key role in preparing communications, reports, and engagement materials, maintaining tracking systems, and ensuring commitments and deliverables are met. This position requires strong writing, organization, and coordination skills, along with the ability to translate complex technical or regulatory information into clear messaging for diverse audiences.
Stakeholder and Indigenous Engagement Coordinator (Intermediate Level):
This role focuses on execution and logistics. The Coordinator supports engagement activities by organizing meetings and events, preparing materials, maintaining tracking systems, and assisting with reporting and program delivery. It is a hands-on role that provides exposure to Indigenous and community engagement while building foundational skills in stakeholder relations, communications, and project coordination.
Core Responsibilities (Across All Levels)
- Support or lead Indigenous and community engagement aligned with project objectives
- Build and maintain respectful relationships with Indigenous Nations, communities, and stakeholders
- Coordinate and participate in meetings, site visits, and community events
- Prepare engagement materials, reports, presentations, and correspondence
- Maintain accurate engagement records, databases, and tracking systems
- Track commitments related to agreements, permits, and regulatory requirements
- Support development and implementation of community programs and partnership initiatives
- Identify risks and opportunities related to stakeholder engagement and escalate as needed
- Collaborate internally across sustainability, regulatory, and project teams
Qualifications & Experience:
- Background in Indigenous Studies, Environmental or Social Sciences, Communications, or related field
- Experience level aligned with role:
- Coordinator: 2–5 years or relevant internships/co-ops
- Analyst: 2–5 years in engagement, communications, or coordination roles
- Specialist: 8+ years in Indigenous relations, stakeholder engagement, or related leadership roles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced project environment
- Experience working with Indigenous Nations and understanding of Indigenous cultures and protocols is highly valued
- Experience supporting regulatory or permitting processes is an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engagement tracking systems
Work Environment
- Remote-based with a preference for candidates located in or familiar with the Yukon or northern Canadian context
- Periodic travel to project sites and communities required
- Standard work schedule with flexibility to support community engagement activities
