Role Description
We are currently seeking a full-time Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team in Calgary.
This role is critical in ensuring that safety is not just a requirement but a core part of our culture and daily operations. The Health & Safety Coordinator will act as the first point of contact for all safety-related matters, working closely with site teams, project managers, project coordinators, and leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and BUILD IT standards.
You will play a key role in maintaining and strengthening our COR-certified safety program, supporting internal audits, and driving continuous improvement across all safety processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Management:
- Maintain and continuously improve the Health & Safety program, policies, and procedures
- Support and maintain COR certification and internal audit processes
Audits & Compliance:
- Conduct internal audits, site inspections, and safety reviews
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety legislation and company standards
Training & Orientation:
- Schedule and deliver new hire Health & Safety orientations
- Coordinate and deliver ongoing safety training programs
Site Support:
- Conduct regular site visits and support Site Supervisors and Project Coordinators
- Reinforce safe work practices and address safety concerns proactively
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain safety records including inspections, hazard assessments, incidents, and training logs
- Prepare reports, track safety metrics, and analyze incident data
Meetings & Committees:
- Organize and support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings
- Record and distribute meeting minutes as required
Incident Management:
- Assist with workplace incident investigations and reporting
- Coordinate submissions through Workers Compensation Board systems
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve safety processes and systems
- Support the development of safety training materials and programs
Qualifications:
- 25+ years of experience in a Health & Safety role within construction or a related industry
- Auditor Training Program (ATP) Certificatepreferred
- Strong knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation, regulations, and codes
- Experience supporting or maintaining COR certification and internal audits
- Familiarity with IHSA standards and safety best practices
- Ability to develop and deliver safety training programs
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage high volumes of documentation and data
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with site teams and leadership
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems
- Ability to conduct site visits and audits across active construction projects
